Plumbing drain - continued

I was still concerned about the low slope of the drain pipe across the basement (now under concrete) and researched it today. Seems we're pretty far off from the standard accepted 1/4" drop for every 12" horizontal guideline. We worked hard to get 1/4" drop across 8'-12' of run. Water might make it through ok but I have strong doubts solids will run their course properly. Gross to think about I know, but certainly a cause for concern.

From 2006 IRC code:
P3005.3 Horizontal drainage piping slope. Horizontal drainage piping shall be installed in uniform alignment at uniform slopes not less than ¼ unit vertical in 12 units horizontal (2-percent slope) for 2½-inch (64 mm) diameter and less, and not less than¹/₈ unit vertical in 12 units horizontal (1-percent slope) for diameters of 3 inches (76 mm) or more.

The subcontractors installing something not even close to residential code is alarming to me. I appreciate my field manager working hard to improve the low slope that was there, but any issue we have with clogged drains from that section of pipe is clearly something Wayne Homes will be on the hook for as this was documented prior to concrete concealing it.

Day 29 - HVAC

HVAC guy came and installed the furnace and ducts today. My only complaint is he didn't use a dolly or carry the furnace through my garage - he drug it across the floor. The sealed surface I paid extra for now has ugly scratches along his drag path. May sound nit picky for a garge floor, but it's my floor and it's pretty easy to avoid careless things like this happening with just a little commom sense.

Day 28

Today the concrete guys came back and saw cut the relief joints in all the concrete. The electrician came back and mounted the panel in the basement and the meter box on the outside wall so the electric company can come install permanent service. Buddy Bill and I knocked out some special projects. We mounted exterior light boxes on the outside for the 4 security lights we added so the siding guys can trim around them and do their thing when they start soon. We also are changing the direction the door swings on our corner pantry so we needed to rewire the the interior light from one wall to another - done! We will be taking the old pantry door and using it to replace bi-fold doors on a linen closet. So we had to reframe the doorway to enlarge it for the size difference - done!

Day 27 - Concrete arrives!

Concrete arrived today for the basement, garage, and front porch.
These guys worked hard all day and never stopped moving.

 Chute to basement where 2 guys with wheel barrows would alternate running and dumping it. NOT a fun job.

 Nice job angling the floor to each of the 2 floor drains.

Day 26 - Prepping for Concrete

Tomorrow we hope to pour the basement floor, front porch, and garage floor so today the guys came out to do the prep work. That mostly consisted of getting the gravel up to final level. We also met with our FM for a while to cover an array of topics. The most important to me was the sewer line in the basement did not appear to me to have enough (if any) angle downward (fall) in some sections. Our FM brought his laser to shoot elevations to check out the situation. After a lot of hard work with a shovel (thanks "M"), we improved the amount of fall. My nature is to worry about stuff like this, especially since it will be buried under concrete and not accessible. I've been assured it should be fine so I'll go find my next thing to worry about....

And what trip would be complete without our constant reminder that Mother Nature likes to Pi$$ on our parade? Glad the shingles are on but enough is enough already! The lot is a total wreck and our neighbors must be upset driving through the mud that keeps washing over the shared drive. At least it's on my property or I'd feel worse. Sorry for the rainy year we're having everybody. My bad for building a house.

Day 25 - More wiring - Oh brother...

Today's special shout out is to my brother Ron - another great electrician! We spent the first half of the day wiring security lights for the back of the house and garage - 4 in total. These lights will be able to be switched on/off from 3 locations. We also added wiring in the garage to allow for additional shop lights over the work area at the back.

Day 24 - garage walls insulated

I was surprised to see the insulators came back since it was Saturday morning and put the wall insulation in the garage walls. Looking good!

My wife has begun plotting the colors she wants. The house will be painted all beige per our contract so we will come back after and add a little color in various rooms.
